Your News Newquay Hornets U11 63 - Saltash U11 0

Newquay continued the fine form shown last week at Penryn as they entertained Saltash at the Sports Centre on Sunday. Newquay attacked from the off with the forwards immediately forcing Saltash on to the back foot, Jack Higginson being the first to show their superiority as he drove through to put the first points on the board. Given the muddy conditions after the recent heavy rain the Newquay backs were moving the ball well, Evie Longworth only just denied as she was held up on the line. Saltash were struggling to contain Newquay and when they got possession kicked to relieve the pressure. Finn Collins took a great catch at fullback before running on strongly to almost the half way line. Excellent rucking from the Newquay forwards continued to see the Hornets gain ground and when a loose ball was picked up by Robin Blackman he swerved past the Saltash defensive line to score. Saltash survived further pressure at the restart from Newquay but when they did get the ball never looked likely to threaten the Hornets line. Newquay's Perran Heaman was unlucky to be held up on the line as Newquay attacked once again but Sol Hawkins was on hand to pick up and go over. Newquay forwards were dominating the ruck and maul and with the conditions as they were it was always going to be here where the game would be won or lost. The Newquay forwards revelled in it and Perran finally got his reward as he forced his way over just before half time. The second half saw Saltash struggling to break out of defence, Newquay harrying them continually when they had the ball and not strong enough to compete against a determined Newquay pack. Ewan Gilroy-Simpson added to the score line and when held on the line moments later Sol, in close support went over. The whole team was on the ascendance now. Sol gaining his hat trick before the backs showed quick hands to see Evie Longworth add yet another try. Ethan Morgan completed the rout. Man of the Match : All the forwards.
