Your News National League 2 South review

The most competitive title race in years looks in prospect in SSE National League Two South with just two points separating the top four sides. Worthing are the current leaders at the halfway point of the season by one point from Hartpury College with Redruth and Henley Hawks two points behind.

Worthing took full advantage of Henleys surprise slip up at Dings Crusaders to go top of the pile after a 28-12 win at home to Launceston. Wing Jack Maslen and No.8 Charlie McGowan each grabbed a brace of tries.

The Hawks have never found it easy at Dings Landseer Avenue ground, and so it proved on Saturday as the long-time leaders were toppled 25-22. What made Dings win all the more remarkable was the fact that they played the game a man down for 20 minutes after losing two men sent to the sin-bin.

There were no surprises in Gloucestershire, though, as Hartpury College brushed aside Southend 39-8. Ian Clark bagged two of his sides seven tries.

Redruth overcame a sluggish start to eventually stroll to a 39-11 victory at home to Clifton at the Recreation Ground. In-form No.8 Tom Duncan got the ball rolling with a 16th-minute try before the Reds went on to add five more scores to their total.

Chinnor and Taunton both scored three tries apiece but it was the Oxfordshire outfit that came out on top, 29-19.

Elsewhere, Lydney made it three wins on the trot at home to Shelford, but they had to do it the hard way after coming back from a 17-3 deficit after half an hour. Lydney eventually won 22-17.

Barkings losing sequence that stretches back to the start of the season is now at 14 games after a 38-10 reverse at home to Bournemouth. The Lions scored six tries, with scrum-half Sam Hardcastle and No.8 Tom Booth both getting doubles.
