Your News High Wycombe 12 - Swanage & Wareham 22

Swanage & Wareham had to High Wycombe for this South West 1(East) encounter which could have a bearing on who would be relegated from this league.

Swans started strongly by pushing the hosts into their own 22 and were awarded a penalty. Unfortunately Charlie Parish just missed with his kick. Swans maintained the pressure and after nine minutes, from a line out, the ball was propelled all along Swans three- quarters line to Charlie Rowberry, who beat his opposite number to score half way out. Parish failed with the conversion. Swans continued to dominate possession and territory with the home side giving away several penalties. It was inevitable that Swans should have added to their tally, but after 31 minutes from a penalty down into the Wycombe 22, Swans won the line out, the ball was passed along the backs, centre Darren Wilcox spotted a gap in the Wycombe defence, and dived over the try line for his first score this season for Swans. Parish landed the conversion to give Swans a 12 points advantage. Just before the break Wycombe gave away another penalty on their own 22, which Parish put over the bar to give Swans a 0 15pts lead at half time.

Swans fell asleep at the start of the second half, missed a couple of tackles and High Wycombe powered their way over in the corner after two minutes to peg Swans back to 5pts 15pts. From then on Swans pressed forward and could have scored again after 55 minutes but as the forwards worked their way close to the line they were penalised for holding on to the ball. However four minutes later the ball was worked out to Charlie Rowberry on the wing and he outpaced the Wycombe defence to run round and score under the posts. Parish added the extras to put Swans 5pts 22pts ahead. As time was running out, a penalty to Wycombe took them into Swans 22 and with a final surge they scored a consolation converted try to take the final score to High Wycombe 12pts Swans 22pts.

As Newbury Blues went down at home to Reading, this victory by Swans, moves them from the foot of the table up two places with Newbury and High Wycombe below them.
