Your News Coventry 8 - Blaydon 17

With the last two encounters between these sides having resulted in a sharing of the spoils it was no surprise that yesterdays clash was equally close but Blaydon in the end proved far too strong and comfortably extended their winning run.

In front of a four figure crowd at the Butts Park Arena honours were even in the opening quarter with both defences at their best and it took a yellow card for Blaydon's Robbie Kalbraier coming in from the wrong side to break the deadlock. Coventry kicked the penalty to the corner and broke blind from the lineout for hooker Matt Price to score near the flag.

Andrew Baggett opened the Blaydon account with a penalty but right on the interval Cliff Hodgson the Coventry fly-half struck a similar effort to make it 8-3 for the home side.

The Blaydon backs who had been unusually lethargic in the first period came out with renewed vigour immediately grabbing the initiative and a try was soon secured. Typically it came from a catch and drive with lock-forward Chris Wearmouth being driven over and Baggett adding the extras.

With 20 minutes remaining the home side were nowhere to be seen as Blaydon bombarded the 22 through both backs and forwards and Baggett finishing it all off with a neat dummy to cross under the posts and again add the conversion.

A late flourish from Coventry was easily contained with 19 yr old prop Trevor Davison making a massive impact when making his debut as a replacement, and straight win number 8 was in the bag.
