Blaydon had little real difficulty in racking up a seventh straight win, a club record for them in National One, and keeping up the challenge at the top of the table but it took them twenty minutes to get going. They chose to start with four regulars on the bench and Director of Rugby Micky Ward said afterwards "Playng a team like that (bottom of the league) can be the hardest thing to do, and all week I have warned the lads not to start thinking it's an easy game"

In the event the opening quarter was a scrappy affair but once skipper Matt Hall had grabbed the opening score, from a fizzing pass from scrum-half Jonathan Burn, usual service was resumed and six more tries secured with little response from the visitors.

A searing burst by winger Tom Jeffery set up the second for Gavin Painter and then Ben Morris was twice involved in the move for the next before finishing it off himself. By the interval it was 22-0 with Tom Banks latching onto a kindly bounce from an optimistic high through ball to leave the defence for dead and score the bonus point try.

Despite making a mess of two attacking line-outs Cambridge eventually got their scoreboard moving with a Bry White effort when the home side fumbled on their own line and then late on through lock Robert Conquest, but the Blaydon machine soon got back into business particularly when the replacements belatedly made an appearance.

When Gavin Jones was held up the ball was quickly re-cycled for Charles Inceldon to find Painter with a cut-ut pass, and in the final play of the game Jeffery found himself unmarked on the end of an equally long pass to scoot in for try No7.
