Your News Cinderford 10 - Blaydon 24

Blaydon made it 6 wins in succession with this first ever victory at the Gloucestershire ground, a result which they thoroughly deserved and it could have been by a bigger margin.

The home side, who started the game in 5th place, were outplayed for most of the second half but had the satisfaction of having started the better and kept Blaydon quiet for the opening 15 minutes.

In extremely muddy conditions they took the lead with a Mark Davies penalty when the visitors were caught offside but the fly-half failed with 2 other attempts before half-time. In sharp contrast his opposite number Andrew Baggett landed 3 conversions and a penalty for Blaydon, his 7th 100% return for the season.

Straight after the setback Blaydon stormed upfield to open their try account, for them the most typical of efforts. Spurning a kickable penalty they made progress up the touchline, secured possession and re-cycled it 3 or 4 times for prop forward Robbie Kalbraier to touch down under the posts.

A Baggett penalty made it 3-10 at the break and within 2 minutes of the restart the forwards were at it again with another 15 metre catch and drive for flanker Robert Bell to cross.

With the game slipping away from them Cinderford threw everything at the visitors and reaped the reward when Davies neatly chipped over the top to send in Nev Coglin and then add the conversion. That was to be their only moment of glory however and the last 20 minutes were spent in keeping out the Blaydon forwards.

Blaydon's 3rd try, a carbon copy of the second, was another success for Bell, and a bonus point seemed certain in the closing minutes when the pack again breeched the line but unfortunately Nico Nyemba was unable to ground the ball.
