Yatton Scorers- Try B Taylor-Menzies; Con C Edwards

Injuries force young talent to step up

Most of Barton Hill players reasonably expected to put 60 points on Yatton considering the two sides positions in the league and their run of results but Yatton stepped up to the plate and the final score line slightly flattered the visitors, from the top of the table.

Barts eventually secured what they had wanted to achieve, a win and bonus point from this hard fought good-spirited game against a constantly reforming young Yatton team.

From a penalty conversion down, Yatton went briefly in front from a kick-and-chase which Blake Taylor-Menzies skilfully gathered and captain Chris Edwards slotted over.

Five minutes later missed tackles gave Barts a try and easy conversion and then Yatton lost their playmaker flyhalf, Chris Quinn, to injury.

On the half hour Barts gained some clear water in the score line, for halftime, with another converted try at 7-17 but regrouping Yatton were showing some spirit and talent of their own.

Barts defence was tested for the first 15 minutes after halftime and beefy tryline escapes were matched by a breakaway try. Yatton had missed a big chance and found themselves another five points behind with scrums developing in Barts favour with the visitors heavier and more experienced pack.

Yattons defence stood up well but their infrequent attacks faltered through over anxiety and Barts fourth try came from positive hands in the backline, near the final whistle, when the games outcome was inevitable.

This Saturday Yatton 1st XV have another hill to do battle with but it may not be quite such a high hill to climb because their opponents are only mid-table with only three wins to their name, but this hill is far away in the Forest of Dean Yatton 1sts travel to Berry Hill. Kick-off is understood to be at 3pm, but who really knows?
