Hornets 42 St Austell 0

The weather was once again kind as the Hornets entertained St Austell at the Sports Centre on Sunday. In bright sunshine, four ten minute periods of play saw everyone get a chance to perform. Newquay started the stronger for probably the first time this season, with the backs moving the ball well. It was the indominatable Ethan Morgan who showed his speed and guile, side stepping his way past two defenders before racing away for the first score. The saints had some good attacking opportunities but with the likes of Evie Longworth and Jack Higginson making some excellent tackles they rarely troubled Newquay. The second period of play saw Newquay controlling the play once more with both Sol Hawkins and Ben Henwood making good ground. Ethan Morgan once again showed quick thinking to switch play following a Newquay scrum close to the Saints line, going over to extend the lead. There was no let up for the Saints as the game restarted with Arthur Bygrave and Eddie Pearce both making strong runs from defence to carry the ball back into the Saints half before some great support play and quick quick hands saw the ball moved out wide for Eddie to score. Moments later a Newquay penalty close to the Saints try line saw Ethan Morgan held up as he sought to drive over but the resulting maul saw Ethan Reed break free and drive through to score . The Hornets didn't have it all their own way in the third period as the Saints worked hard to try and take the game to them but with the Hornets defence in fine form, particularly Evie Longworth who made some big tackles, they couldn't break through. The fourth period saw Newquay pick up the pace once more, some good rucking and support play seeing Perran Heaman score twice the second ably converted by Ben Henwood. Ethan Gill put in a noteworthy performance as hooker during the game against a strong St Austell scrum, but the woMan of the Match went to Evie Longworth after a real gutsy performance.
