Another thrilling weekend of rugby in SSE National Two South saw three games settled by the narrowest of margins. With rampant leaders Henley having a rest weekend, all eyes were on Worthing and Redruth, who met on the south coast, to see if either could close the gap on the Hawks.

The Raiders prevailed 27-26 but only after the lead had changed hands five times in a stirring contest that yielded three tries and two yellow cards for either side. With the Reds crashing to their first defeat of the season only Hartpury College and Henley now boast unbeaten records.

The two other nail-biters came in the West Country. John Lewis 80th-minute try saw Clifton win 18-17 at Taunton, for whom Gary Kingdom scored two tries, while James Cathcarts late penalty handed Chinnor a 23-22 win away to Lydney.

Hartpury maintained their unblemished start to the season thanks to a dominant forward effort, with veteran hooker Chris Fortey an influential force in a 41-7 win at Canterbury.

Hartpury are now effectively one win behind Henley, as are Shelford, who never looked back after scoring two very early tries against Bournemouth at Bishop Gate. Shelford went on to win 24-10.

Four tries secured a win and a bonus point for Launceston at home to Southend. Two Jack Jones penalties handed Southend an early 6-3 lead at Polson Bridge, but the Cornish All Blacks then rattled off 35 points without reply to claim their second win of the season. Fullback Kieron Lewitt finished with 18 points from his seven successful kicks at goal.

Barkings horror start to the season continued on Saturday as they went down 33-19 at home to Dings Crusaders in what was their seventh straight loss of the campaign. Left wing James Oakley crossed the line twice for the visitors who also claimed tries through fellow wing Taylor Stevens and centre Rob Dempsey. Mark Woodrow kicked 13 points.
