Your News Wharfedale 28 - Blaydon 32

Blaydon got back to winning ways with a fine all-round performance at Wharfedale but for much of the time it could have gone either way. They were at their best in the first half, running in 3 tries to build up a 7-25 lead but a couple of yellow cards then swung the game.

Andrew Baggett, who had a mixed day with the boot in unluckily hitting the woodwork on 3 occasions, opened the scoring with a drop goal but when Blaydon failed to control the restart ball Wharfedale moved it on for back-rower James Tyson to touch down, Tom Davidson converting.

Blaydon quickly put the set-back behind them and in rapid time threatened to run away with the game. Tom Banks latched onto a loose ball to send in Tom Jeffery who then hacked on to cross the line for a second. Centre Charles Inceldon scythed through the middle to finish off an excellant move for try No3 and with a Baggett conversion and penalty the visitors were 18 points clear.

In the closing minutes of the half however 2 players were sent to the sin-bin and whilst they were down to 13 men Wharfedale hit back with a Davidson try one minute before the break and then a Luke Gray effort one after, both converted by Davidson.

Back to full strength Blaydon regained the initiative when a Robert Bell turnover created space for No8 Jason Smithson, Gavin Painter adding the extras, but in a repeat of first half events they were hit with another yellow card and Wharfedale were able to narrow the gap through Steven Graham from a maul and a 4th successful conversion by Davidson.
