Newquay U11s started the new season in convincing fashion against visiting side Launceston. Playing 12 a side for the first time, they surged forward from the off. Eddie Pearce jinked through for an early score in the right hand corner, ably converted by Ethan Morgan who was to go on and convert 8 out of 10 taken in the windy conditions. This was followed shortly after by Ethan Gilroy-Simpson who brushed aside the attentions of the defensive line to open his own account. Ethan Reed, who worked tirelessly in the forwards, showed his usual grit and determination to drive over and add to the score in a similar fashion. Launceston struggled to cope with the tempo set by Newquay early on. The pace of the backs, impeccable handling and intelligent switching of play left them chasing shadows. Ethan Morgan bamboozled their defence as he cut through for an epic individual effort. Ewan added his second after some slick passing between the backs before Ben Henwood shimmied his way through on the right to score. Newquay looked in total control at the end of the first period but a resolute Launceston side applied their own sustained pressure after the break eventually going over despite some stoic defending from Newquay on their own try line. It proved to be a temporary reprieve however. Perran Heamen drove through the middle before the ball found its way to new boy Jake Reet-ONeil on the left, who required the combined efforts of several Launceston players to deny him a debut try. Newquay raised the pace of the game once more. Eddie scored a second before Finn Collins showed his athleticism on the surfboard was equally at home on the rugby field as he twisted and swerved his way past the Launceston defense to add to the tally. Further scores from Sol Hawkins and Lewis Hollings sealed off an emphatic win. Final score 66-7.
