Your News Blaydon 41 - Fylde 17

Blaydon got back to winning ways in a proverbial game of two halves which saw them run riot near the end but only after a turgid opening 40 minutes when they spurned chance after chance. Their usual dominant rolling maul repeatedly stuttered in the face of some dubious defensive play by the visitors who somehow survived to run in a brace of tries and hold the lead until the 58th minute.

Fly-half Andrew Baggett landed the first points with a penalty, and went on to add another plus 5 conversions, but Fylde against the run of play went ahead when Blaydon spilled the ball and Danny Maher crossed from close range. The score moved on to 3-14 when visiting fly-half Chris Johnson added a second score and the interval was beckoning before Blaydon finally put a move tgether which saw hooker Matt Hall scamper in from a Hall Charlton pass.

Johnson kicked a penalty for Fylde shortly after the restart to add to his 2 conversions but Frazer Wilson stepped in to lead the Blaydon revival. The young winger secured possession when Jeffrey ran into trouble and left his marker for dead to storm over from 30 metres, and could have had another when he beat one defender to chip ahead and run round the full-back only to be beaten by a wicked bounce.

When not for the first time Fylde pulled down a maul Blaydon opted for a scrum, and a short pass to Jeffrey brought try number3 and a massive push to clinch a bonus point.

That came when normal service was resumed with a succesful catch and drive from which flanker Ben Morris went over and in the 2nd minute of time added on Chris Wearmouth crossed in a similar move to make it a slighly flattering 24 point winning margin.
