Ealing are the only side to boast a 100 per cent winning record after the first three rounds of action in SSE National League One following a 56-15 victory at Macclesfield. Three players scored a brace of tries apiece, with prolific wing Phil Chesters amongst the men to dot down twice. Kicker Tom Wheatcroft continued his fine start to the season by converting all eight of his side’s tries.

Cinderford remain unbeaten in the league but only after a monumental fightback away to Rosslyn Park earned them a share of the spoils. The Forresters scored five tries after the break to recover from a 24-3 deficit and lead by seven points with four minutes to go. But Hugo Ellis’ last-gasp try and Ross Laidlaw’s conversion drew the home side level.

Tynedale, who travel to Ealing on Saturday, are another side to have made big strides since the close season. The north-east outfit can be well pleased with a 30-10 victory at home to Sedgley Tigers, which puts them in third – level on points with newly promoted Richmond. Richmond outscored Blaydon three tries to two in a 24-20 win.

Fifth-placed Blackheath passed a century of points for the season in a hard-fought 26-20 win at home to Wharfedale. Rory Teague, Tom Stradwick and Tom Bason crossed the line for ‘Club’.

Esher got their second try bonus point win of the season in a 37-22 victory at Loughborough Students, who are only kept off the bottom by pointless Macclesfield.

Coventry got their first win of the season at the third time of asking when they defeated Cambridge for the first time in five matches. Coventry rewarded the Butts Park Arena faithful with a five-try, 37-5 victory.

Player-coach James Shanahan led from the front to help Old Albanians to a 26-20 win away to Fylde. Old A’s recovered from 12-0 down to win what was the first-ever meeting between the sides.
