Your News Swanage & Wareham 13 - Old Centralians 26

Swanage & Wareham welcomed Old Centralians, a club from Gloucester, for the first ever match between the two clubs, and it proved a very competitive game, with Swans putting on a brave display compared with the previous week.

Old Centralians were very powerful in the pack early on, with Swans having to give ground to the heavier forwards, but the home side could have taken the lead with a penalty after 14 minutes, but Charlie Parishs attempt just missed. Centralians worked their way up the field, and with a move along the three-quarters, and back to the forwards no.8 Pete Willets was on hand to give the visitors the lead after 20 minutes. Liam Hemmings added the extras giving Centralians a 0 7pts lead. The visitors could have increased their lead on the half hour mark but were pulled up for crossing, and from the resulting penalty kick Swans were attacking the Centralians line. From a tap penalty quickly taken by Swans scrum half George Armstrong, and a grubber kick through to Swans no.8 Joe Desmond who scored half way out. (5pts 7pts). However just before half time Centralians increased their lead with a well taken try by winger Rob Jones in the corner, which Liam Hemmings converted. Half time 5pts 14pts to the away side.

Swans could not have had a worse start to the second half, giving away a penalty after two minutes, putting Centralians inside Swans 22 metre line. From the line out the visitors passed the ball along the backs and centre Liam Hemmings scored in the corner. He did not add the extras but Swans were down by 5pts 19pts.With encouragement from the sidelines Swans were not beaten and a penalty took them into the visitors 22. From the line out a typical Swans catch/drive move ended with Swans hooker and captain Rob Elford powering his way over the try line after 50 minutes. 10pts 19pts.The rest of the game was hard fought with Swans giving the away pack some problems as the Centralians tired. On the hour mark Charlie Parish brought Swans to within a bonus point as he landed a penalty goal. In the last minute however Centralians put an end to the match as winger Rob Jones scored his second try, which Hemmings converted giving the visitors a 13pts 26pts victory and claiming the bonus point for themselves.
