All bar one of Saturdays results in SSE National League One saw the losing side pick up a bonus point to highlight the hugely competitive nature of this division.

The only one-sided game came at Park Lane, where Sedgley Park defeated Macclesfield 39-17 thanks, in part, to a hat-trick of tries from hooker Richard Oxley. Juan Crous and replacement bsck, Chris Wilkinson, also dotted down for the Tigers.

Elsewhere, though, it was different story, with small margins separating the sides in the remaining seven fixtures. The most dramatic finish of all came in the Yorkshire Dales as Wharfedale sealed a narrow victory over Fylde with a last-gasp try from Chris Howick.

There was another pulsating game in the Forest of Dean, where Coventry, who had failed to score on their two previous visits to Dockham Road, were on course to beat Cinderford. Cov led 31-14 shortly after half-time only for the home side to come good with three second-half tries to clinch a 36-31 win.

Cinderford are one of only three sides to have won both their opening games - the others being Ealing and Blaydon. Title favourites Ealing were outscored three tries to two by Rosslyn Park, but Thomas Wheatcroft held his nerve in front of goal to bag 19 points and an important win for the west Londoners. Blaydon, meanwhile, took local bragging rights - and four points - from their derby game against Tynedale.

Esher bounced back from their defeat on the opening weekend to score five tries in a 33-28 victory over Blackheath, while Cambridge condemned Loughborough Students to a second defeat at this level. Wing Mike Gillick got two tries, his first scores for the East Anglian club, in a 25-18 win.

In the battle of the two sides promoted from National Two South Old Albanians withstood a second-half fightback from Richmond to win 32-25 at the Woollams.
