Your News Shipston 9 - Pershore 25

Pershore won on the road for the first time this season at Shipston on Saturday. Although Pershore were clearly the better side it was not until the last few minutes until they pulled away from their opponents.

Going up the slope in the first half Pershore took a while to get out of first gear. They were soon trailing to a Shipston penalty, and this seemed to provoke a reaction out of them. A solid scrum in the Shipston half gave the visitors the advantage they were looking for. A strong run by Martin Hope interested the defence and he passed to scrum half Adrian Hanson to score under the posts. Woodhouse added the extras to give Pershore a 7-3 lead. Woodhouse extended the lead soon after with a penalty. Pershore again extended the lead before half time when Sid Hirons fed the ball to his centre counterpart Stefan Ellis ho had the pace to score from his own half. Woodhouse missed the conversion.

Going down hill Pershore should have put the game away early in the second half. They continued to dominate the set piece and the strong running of Holmes, Hope and Peel made it difficult for the home defence but somehow Pershore could not cross the line. Shipston did have a purple patch in the final quarter of the game and found themselves camped on the Pershore line. However the visitors defence was strong and solid and the line was not breached. All Shipston got from their territorial advantage was a couple of penalties. Pershore finished the game well with a try under the posts from Hope. Woodhouse again converted to make the score 25-9 to Pershore.

Pershores second team enjoyed a comfortable victory against Bromsgrove vets. Back rowers Rob Owen & Ben Yeates both got themselves on the score sheet, but it was Captain Damian May who secured victory with a brace.
