Your News Macclesfield 19 - Blaydon 43

Blaydon got their season off to a cracking start with a crushing 7 try demolition job on Macclesfield, including a hat-trick for Tom Banks on his debut and a brace for No8 Jason Smithson.

At half-time it was 0-26 with the home side nowhere to be seen and only coming into it late on when a combination of injuries and yellow cards left Blaydon permanantly a man short.

Smithson got the ball rolling as early as the 5th minute when the pack made 30 metres with a catch and drive for the No8 to finish off. Andrew Baggett converted that effort and also the next when Blaydon exploited a huge gap moving it through 4 pairs of hands for new boy Banks to race in.

Winger Tom Jeffery crossed in the corner and on the half hour Smithson powered over from a 5 metre scrum for his second.

Within a minute of the restart Macclesfield had spilled the kick-off ball and Banks beat 3 men in a jinking run for try number five and the one-way traffic looked set to continue. When Smithson was given his ten minutes however the home side at last found some form to run in tries through Kirk Robinson and then winger Josh Fowldes amd hooker Tom Cruise both from interceptions.

With scrum-half Andy Davies providing an excellant service however Blaydon showed great composure to regain the advantage allowing Banks to grab his 3rd from a Jeffery break and finally Fraser Wilson when Hall Charlton broke from a scrum to make 20 metres and send him in.
