Your News Swanage & Wareham 29 - Trojans 17

Swanage & Wareham rugby club opened their season with a home friendly game against Trojans, from Southampton who play in an equivalent league to Swans, but play in the London division.

Both sides started by giving away penalties, but after seven minutes a penalty to Swans took play into the Trojans five metre line. From a line out Swans put on a drive the ball was worked back to winger Charlie Rowberry who cut inside to score out wide. Fly half Charlie Parish added the extras. Within a quarter of an hour Trojans scored a try by a centre to reduce Swans lead to 7 5. Swans increased their lead as once again a break by Charlie Rowberry caught Trojans unawares and he scored in the corner. (12 5) Trojans came back at Swans and scored a fine try under the posts to bring the level at 12 12.. A third try by Charlie Rowberry from a move all along the three-quarters put Swans ahead by 17 12 but just before half time Trojans scored with a kick ahead and a chase to leave the score at the break 17pts each.

Both teams made adjustments to their sides, and from then on Swans seemed to have the upper hand. From a scrum close to the Trojans line Swans scrum half Chris Tomes crossed the line to put Swans 24 17 up after 64 minutes and just before the end of the game Swans second row Dan Collins broke free to score under the posts, but surprisingly Parish sliced his conversion attempt to give Swans the victory by 29pts 17pts.
