Your News Year 9's make promising start

Sir William Ramsay Year 9 rugby team played their opening game of the season against St. Burnards at home. The Year 9 team were let down by a number of players who failed to show so struggled to put a team out. Due to the fact that the Year 9's only had 10 players, 6 Year 8 boys made the step up.

Patrick Blunt, Harry Tanner, Andrew Eckheart, Nikolas Williams, Dan Hucker and Jake Cockram all played a year above and all put in positive displays and will benefit from the experience.

The first half saw St. Burnards score three tries but the scoreline didn't reflect the half. The Ramsay boys spent the majority of the half in St. Burnards half with some good ball. The only thing that was missing was the finishing but the positives far out weighed the negatives. Patrick Blunt and Harry Tanner got through a mountain of work on both attack and defence and both made the tackle of the half when an opposing player was about to place the ball over the line only to be dragged back by the pair.

The second half saw the away side run in two more tries but Jack Tolhurst got the home side off the mark with a wonderfull solo effort. Jack captained the side and had an impressive game in the forwards along with Devon Beadon, Dan Hucker and Jake Cockram.

The Year 9's will benefit from the experience of this game and they have the potential to achieve some good results if they remain commited to training and continue to encourage one another.

Squad: Jake Cockram, Adnan Tulukdar, Jason Matheou, Ashley Kristo, Jonathan Hosseiny, Devon Beadon, Dan Hucker, Iain Hill, Ben Heathers, Andrew Eckheart, Patrick Blunt, Harry Tanner, Nikolas Williams, Robert Papworth, Tom Scott
