Kesteven 2nds 20 Sleaford 3rds 7

Another bright and sunny Saturday at Woodnook saw Kesteven entertain near neighbours Sleaford in this Friendly Match.

The K's 2nd team have hit a decent spell of form and are assembling a good squad with just the right blend of youth and experience, very well led by scrum half Simon Oakes.

Early exchanges were fairly tight with the Sleaford pack working well and creating enough possession to keep K's penned in their own half for long periods but the slick home backs opened the scoring. Some great interplay particularly between Dent and McAllister saw the former finish the move with a try after 15 minutes. The conversion failed and Sleaford restarted the game by taking play into the home 22 again. This time young Mark Saylel led the charge out and again the move was carried on by the backs and again Dent finished the move with the try to double the lead to 10 - 0.

This time Sleaford got some reward for their pressure. Their pack were able to get a foothold close to the Kesteven line and it was no surprise when they forced their way over for a try at the posts. The conversion cut K's lead to 10 - 7.

Kesteven were giving away too many penalties at this stage and Andy Pearsey paid the price for this by being sin-binned for persistent infringements. This seemed to galvanise the home side and shortly before half time while still shorthanded they scored their third and best try. The depleted pack won a scrum on the Sleaford 22 and swift handling along the line saw Rob Windsor sprint over in the corner to take the match into half time with a 15 - 7 lead.

In the second half K's rang the changes to give players a run. Bryan, Dolan

Clarke, Jordan Smith and Welham came on for Oakes, Midgely, Graham Smith, Flear and Login.

The fluent play continued with some fine play, much of it orchestrated by fly half Jason Lamb. From one move Jordan Smith was set clear. He chose to go for the line when the better option might have been to pass to Windsor. The score was only delayed by a few minutes as Windsor sealed his man of the match performance with his 2nd try.

Sleaford did finish the match on the attack but failed to add to their score.

For Kesteven there were some impressive performances. Windsor took his two tries, his first for the club, very well and his whole game including some strong tackling made him a worthy man of the match. Elsewhere in the backs Dent was sharp and Tony Burton used his strength well in typical no-nonsense straight running, while Lamb was very elusive at flyhalf and McAllister was sound at full back. In the pack Sayle was dominant in the line out while Graham Smith used his experience to good effect and Jamie Flear was industrious in winning some good ball on the ground.

For this week

fixtures on Sat are 1st at home to Amber Valley, 2nds away to East Leake and 3rds away to Nottingham Boots Corsairs 2nds.

Kesteven U-11s Match Report 19/10

Kesteven 14 Sleaford 21

Kesteven 19 Bourne 5

Kesteven showed good progress throughout their squad in two hard fought encounters at Bourne RFC

Ks forwards again scummaged effectively against Sleafords larger pack and remained determined in the loose, resisting long periods of pressure. Ben Morrison was strong in contact and when play opened up Ks backs looked incisive with two fine scores from Moody and Bower.

Against Bourne Ks were always in control with Gareth Lord running strongly and wing Tom Kendall tackling bigger opponents with relish.

New forwards Cameron Knott and Austin Mellors made an impact and Lyle showed good technique as Ks kicked conversions for the first time.

Under 10 v Bourne

kESTEVEN 0 Sleaford 20

KESTEVEN 5 Bourne 15

KESTEVEN 15 Sleaford 25

Kesteven visited Bourne who also entertained Sleaford in a triangular tournament.

Ks played initially against Sleaford and again seem hesitant early on in the tackle against a well organised

Sleaford side who were the under 10 Kesteven festival winners 2 weeks earlier. Quick movement from the ruck

allowed Sleaford time to keep the ball at vital points in the first half and went in 15-0 up at half time.

The second half showed improvement from Ks and they went close to the line several times but lacked the final blow.

Sleaford got a late try to make it 20-0.

The big squad allowed almost a complete change for the second match and against a large Bourne side the newer players

acquitted themselves admirably in tackling and tenacity epitomised by Porter and Henderson. Bourne did go into the

break 10-0 up but were matched in the second half and Ks eventually scored through a Tom Henderson try. In the end

it should have been a lot closer.

The final game allowed everyone a half at least and was a game of 2 very different halfs.

Ks played well against a weakened Sleaford and a first try for William Porter was reward for all his effort. Udom's

strength and resilience allowed him to break away for 2 more tries before half time. Windsor, Kearsey and Clydesdale

made a very good pack this time.

A complete change in the second half for both teams allowed a rampant Sleaford to come back too easily against a mostly

inexperienced Kesteven side.

Both Bourne and Sleaford will be in the mix for the NLD Cup this year and Kesteven should learn some

valuable lessons from them both.
