Your News Midlands 8 in England U20 Counties Squad

EIGHT Midlands players have been included in the England Counties Under 20s squad for the international against Scotland Under 20s at St Andrews University on May 4.

Prop George Richardson (Syston and Leicestershire), who is the son of former Leicester Tigers prop Wayne, and number eight Sam Heygate (Loughborough Students and East Midlands) have been named among the forwards.

The backs include scrum-half Ross Kevan (Old Northamptonians and East Midlands), fly-half James Stokes (Leicester Lions and Notts, Lincs & Derbyshire), centres Huw Morgan (Chinnor and East Midlands) and Heath Stevens (Coventry and East Midlands), wing De La Rey Veenendaal (Cambridge and East Midlands) and full-back Jim Wigglesworth (Hull and NLD).

All impressed in helping the Midlands win the Under 20 Divisional title at a recent National Development Weekend at Welbeck College in Leicesterhire.

“We are really excited about this group of young players- we have real power, pace and skill right throughout the squad and the competition for places will be intense,” said England Counties chairman of selectors Rob Clilverd.

“Having seen Scotland play we know we are in for a really tough test up in St. Andrews but looking at the squad we have, we travel with real confidence and I am sure the team will enjoy the whole experience.”
