Your News Wharfedale 34 - Blaydon 3

Blaydon's recent good run of form came to an abrupt end when their much weakened side ran out of steam in the second half. Up until then an equal share of possession had kept them in contention and at the break it was only 6-3 with Andrew Baggett landing a penalty for Blaydon and Tom Barrett responding with a brace for the home side.

Five minutes into the second period however the floodgates opened as Wharfedale took control of what rapidly became a very one-sided game. Home full-back Luke Gray came into the line at speed to cruise through for the opening try and was quickly followed by man of the match Barrett.

The fly-half was given good clean ball from a scrum, broke quickly and ghosted past the Blaydon defence for a superb solo score. He then put over the conversion, as he did with 2 of Wharfedale's other 3 tries, to make it a personal tally of 16 points.

Back-row forward Dan Solomi came into the game as leading Wharfedale try scorer for the season with 14 and added to that total middway through the half when he stole the ball at a ruck and stormed over.

In a rare Blaydon attack Gavin Painter broke well to briefly threaten the home line but ran out of support and it was left to Wharfedale to show the way, centre James Ticknell racing in for the bonus point winning score, converted by Simon Horsfall, that moved his side well clear of the relegation zone.
