Pershore suffer derby defeat

Pershore entertained local rivals Droitwich at Piddle Park on Saturday

afternoon. In glorious sunshine, but a stiff breeze Pershore kicked into

the wind, from the first ruck home scrum half James Bishop dislocated

his shoulder, side lining him for the remainder of the season. Things

did not really improve for Pershore as the visitors sucked in the home

forwards and then attacked wide exploiting gaps and overlaps. When

Pershore did control possession both Martin Hope and Marcus Whyte were

to the fore with the ball in hand. Pershore defended well at close

quarters. Both Dave Hill & Ben Humphries turned over their fair share of

ball but when Droitwich got the ball wide Pershore were punished. With a

half time lead of over 20 points Droitwich scored early to take the

score to 31-0. The never say die attitude of the home side saw was

rewarded with a try for Centre Richard Baker but despite plenty of

territory & possession in the latter stages of the second half Pershore

could make no further impression on the score line, Droitwich running

out worthy winners 31-5. Next week Pershore travel to Solihull to face

promotion chaser Silhillians.
