SEDBERGH School extended their proud record in the Kukri North of England Schools Sevens at Birkenhead Park yesterday (March 4, 2012) when they carried off the Bowring Trophy for the eighth time.

This was the 24th playing tournament, which is additionally backed by The Army and The Wooden Spoon, and once again attracted a high-quality entry, with 40 schools from across the country taking part.

The winners moved smoothly into the final with a 39-5 defeat of Barnard Castle, while their opponents Hymers College from Hull had to battle to the death in their semi before getting the better of East Yorkshire neighbours Ampleforth 31-28.

Sedbergh went on the win the final 22-12 and have their name inscribed on the trophy once again.

In the subsidiary competition for the Boodle & Dunthorne Salver, Manchester Grammar School beat Kirkham Grammar 33-0.

The Gerald Finch Trophy for the outstanding player of the tournament went to Ellesmere College fly-half Adam King.
