Pershore sailed into the third round of the EDF Senior Vase after Saturdays emphatic victory at Piddle Park. The home side ran in 9 tries all told with number 8 Martin Hope claiming a hat trick.

The writing was on the wall for the visitors after just a few minutes. The Pershore pack had already started to flex their muscles, and after dominating a scrum deep in Shrewsbury territory Hope picked up and scored. Pershore scored again a few minutes later. This time the put a Shrewsbury scrum under extreme pressure and flanker Chris Copson dived on the ball over the line after the scrum half fumbled. Pershore were 12-0 up and it seemed they had not even got out of first gear. Shrewsbury got there account open with a penalty a few minutes later, and then, completely against the run of play there winger scored after a dubious knock on which the referee did not see. It was now 12-10. Pershore started to move through the gears. Winger Andy Jenkinson scored in the corner and he was soon followed over the whitewash by debutant Centre Angus Macdonald. Veteran Matt Harwood scored another for the home side after Shrewsbury had slotted a second penalty giving the Pershore a 29-13 interval lead.

The second half was all Pershore. The visitors did have a purple patch of possession late in the game but the home defence stood firm. Winger Marcus Whyte, a problem all afternoon for the visitors collected a chip ahead from Adrian Hanson and scored in the corner. There was also a second score for Jenkinson and two more for Hope late in the game. This was a good victory for Pershore, against a team who were previously unbeaten this season. The piddle parkers are back to league action next Saturday when they visit Shipston in a Midlands Four West encounter
