Blaydon continued where they left off 7 days ago when they handed out a heavy beating to 2nd top Fylde. This time it was against 2nd bottom Birmingham and the outcome was an even bigger margin with the Crow Trees outfit running in 7 tries, and it could have been more.

Playing in front of a home crowd for the first time in 9 weeks they held a massive advantage in the forwards, particularly in a front row bolstered by Matt Thompson and Darren Fearn, both on loan from Newcastle Falcons.

The onslaught started in the 4th minute when fly-half Andrew Baggett cut back inside from a short scrum to cross under the posts and then added the conversion himself, the first of six. Surprisingly the visitors were on level terms within 10 mintes with a breakaway try initiated by left wing Jack Pons who hacked on a loose ball and gave chase into the 22.

Play was switched to the other wing where Ollie Winter cleverly held off a challenge to score in the corner and Mark Woolrow added the points.

But that was to be it for the Midlanders who gained little possession from scrum and line-out for the remainder of the game.

Matt Clark grabbed Blaydon's second score when he latched onto a grubber kick from Baggett, and by the interval flanker Robert Bell had crossed from a rolling maul.

The second period was played almost exclusively in the Birmingham half with the visitors persisting in running out of defence and invariably losing possession as a result.

Blaydon No8 Gavin Jones quickly added 2 more tries, the first from a typical pushover and then at a rolling maul from the regular tactic of kicking penalties to the corner.

The longer it went on the more it seemed likely that Blaydon would continue scoring and so it proved although to their credit Birmingham were still passing and running at the end.

Blaydon continued to pile on the pressure and try number 6 was secured after more line-out ball had been gathered in and driven on for prop Robbie Kalbraier to touch down.

The final blow was delivered in the 2nd minute of time added on and came from a rare break by the backs but inevitably it was finished off by a forward. Charles Inceldon and Simon Barber exchanged passes in a scintillating move that only broke down when the line was in sight but quick re-cycling resulted in Fearn crashing over near the posts.
