Jersey opened up a five- point lead at the top of the National One table after their hard- fought win over Cinderford in front of a 2,295 crowd was combined with defeat for their

nearest title challengers, Rosslyn Park and Fylde.

While the Islanders withstood fierce resistance from the Forest of Dean outfit, Fylde and Rosslyn Park came unstuck in front of their own supporters at the hands of north- east pair,

Blaydon and Tynedale respectively. Prop Robert Kalbraier scored twice for Blaydon and Andrew Baggett added 14 points with the boot in a bonus- point win. Tynedale overturned a

16-3 deficit to beat Rosslyn Park 37-23 and create the shock of the day.

Ealing seized the chance to go second in the table with a 43-17 victory at home to Wharfedale. Two tries apiece for flanker Jack Clifford and wing Phil Chesters helped Mike Cudmores

men get their season firmly back on track.

Macclesfield are still an outside bet for promotion, with a sixth straight win leaving them eight points adrift of Jersey with ten matches to play. The Cheshire side saw off Cambridge in a

feisty encounter where both sides were reduced to 13 men at different points in the game following two yellow cards in quick succession. Elsewhere, Coventry ended a four- game

losing run with victory over Barking, Sedgley Park picked up a bonus- point win on the road at Birmingham & Solihull and Blackheath came out on top in an entertaining game against

Stourbridge.
