Your News Fylde 10 - Blaydon 34

Blaydon completed a remarkable double over 2nd placed Fylde having previously ended their then unbeaten record with a 33-17 walloping at Crow Trees in October.

Yesterday in front of club stalwart Bill Beaumont and coaching consultant Brian Aston Fylde were again brought down to earth by a far superior Blaydon outfit playing some of their best rugby of the season.

The home side scored first with a Martin Wallwork try whilst Blaydon were still getting the effects of the journey out of their legs but by quarter time the visitors had taken a firm control in the forwards which they held to the end.

It was a massive effort up front that led to the equalizing score when prop forward Robbie Kalbraier touched down, with Andrew Baggettt, who was to end with a 100% kicking record, adding the points and then a penalty.

Leading 5-10 at the interval Blaydon continued where they had left off in the second period, that is in complete control, and were soon rewarded with another close range Kalbraier effort. On 60 minutes they then ran in the try of the game with scrum-half Lewis Crosby starting the move when he scooped up a loose ball and darted clear.

Slick passing between the three-quarters took it further upfield until Matt Clark spotted an inviting gap and shot through unapposed. Baggett's conversion took it to 5-24 which the fly-half followed up with a monster penalty from the half-way line.

One-way traffic remained the order of the day with Blaydon on the search of a bonus point try which duly arrived after the awarding of a kickable penalty. Having opted for a scrum they secured good ball and after another bout of slick handling replacement back Gavin Painter raced in from 15 metres.

With 2 minutes remaining Fylde full-back Chris Briers grabbed a consolation try but nothing could diminish a fantastic performance from Blaydon.
