Jersey displayed their Championship credentials on and off the pitch with a bumper crowd of 3,648 watching the Islanders go top of the SSE National League One table. For the

second week running Jersey toppled the league leaders, following up their win at Ealing the previous Saturday with a 20-18 success over title rivals Rosslyn Park. A fine display of goal-

kicking from Ross Broadfoot under- pinned Jerseys win, with the former Premiership player supplying five penalties to add to Glenn Bryces 34th- minute try.

The result at Rue des Landes was one of five tight matches on another hugely competitive weekend of rugby. None were closer than the games between Stourbridge and Birmingham

& Solihull and Wharfedale and Blackheath, which ended in the narrowest of victories for the Bees, thanks to six penalties from the boot of Mark Woodrow, and Wharfedale held their

nerve to edge out 'The Club'.

There was another nervy finish at Volac Park where a brace of tries from Ian Ascroft- Leigh helped Cambridge see off Tynedale, and Cinderford maintained their winning run - and

added to Ealings woes at the same time with a 27-24 success over the Londoners, whose promotion challenge is fading fast.

Elsewhere, victory in the north- west derby over Sedgley Park saw Fylde move up into second place and Macclesfield made it five wins in a row with a thumping 48-12 victory away to

beleaguered Barking. Scrum- half Charlie Mulchrone grabbed a hat- trick. Blaydon v Coventry was postponed and has been re- arranged for February 25th.
