Your News 3 counties win U18 Midlands opener

Notts, Lincs & Derbyshire eased to a 35-0 over Leicestershire in a game of two distinct halves in their opening match in this season's Midlands Under-18 Championship at Newark's Kelham Road ground today.

The Three Counties scored all their points in a one-sided first half but were unable to maintain the high tempo for the full match against a Leicestershire side who showed improved resistance in their second match in four days.

The group winners will be decided on Wednesday October 22 when East Midlands host NL&D at Peterborough (7.30pm) in a game which will determine who will have the chance to play-off for the title and the Bob Coward Cup at Broadstreet on Sunday November 2.

Paviors fly-half James Stokes contributed 20 of NL&D's points by converting all five of their tries, two of which he scored himself.

NL&D's other tries came from wing Ryan Hough (Masnsfield), openside flanker and captain Tim Walton (Mansfield and Nottingham HS) and centre Greg Billam of Paviors.
