Your News Yatton 0 - Chard 69

Ed Heal who played for Yatton from Under 7s to 16s was tragically killed in a road accident on Christmas Day. A minutes silence was held before the game in remembrance of the 19 year old trainee army tank driver.

The young home side team had expected another tough encounter against Chard as their first game in the New Year. The beefy experienced side, bolstered by the usual imports, did not disappoint and were off to a blistering start with a collapsing scrum penalty try at six minutes.

The 4th bonus try came after only 30 minutes making the score line 0-26 but Yattons set pieces, especially in line-outs, easily matched anything that the top of the league side could manage and chances were created. It was in the centre of the back division where Chard were most powerful and slick a good lesson for Yattons youngsters, if they had chance to study it.

For ten minutes before halftime Chard were held back until, in injury time, the Yatton side received its first yellow card and a rolling maul claimed another 5 points for the visitors.

Chards well drilled and confident machine continued throughout the second half but Yatton never gave up and continued to give the opposition a heavily contested game which received supporters respect, despite the referees decision to suffer from home side yellow card fever twice in the dying embers of the final quarter.

This Saturday Yatton 1st XV travel the short distance to Weston Hornets while the 2nd XV remain at home to Wiveliscombe 2nds and the 3rds travel to meet Keynsham 4ths
