Your News Macclesfield 16 - Blaydon 10

After 4 weeks of inactivity Blaydon showed no signs of ring rustiness, going down narrowly at Macclesfield in a game that they could so easily have won.

It was entirely against the run of play when the home side took a 9th minute lead when Ross Whinney . their fly-half dropped a goal but Blaydon were soon back on the attack. With centre Matt Clark in scintillating form with his incisive running and lock Keith Loughlin a constant threat in the loose a try was not long in coming.

Clark was twice involved in the build up leading to massive pressure on the home line before prop Robbie Kalbraier crashed over. Andrew Baggett added the conversion to make it 3-7 in Blaydons favour.

Macclesfield hit back with a Whinney penalty but then again against the run of play stormed back into the lead with a slick passing movement that saw flanker Ryan Parkinson cross for the try.

Leading 11-7 at the break Macclesfield made a better fist of it when it was their turn to face the strong wind, sensibly keeping ball in hand, and were rewarded with a 2nd try through Matt Owen the other loose forward.

Despite their 9 points deficit it was Blaydon back in charge however, applying constant pressure in the 22 with the forwards in complete control and Macclesfield on the back foot but somehow the home line survived and Blaydon's only reward a penalty for Baggett and a losing bonus point.
