Your News Pershore 42 - Kings Norton 5

After a stuttered start Pershore came out comfortable victors in Saturdays league encounter with Kings Norton at Piddle Park.

It was the visitors who opened the scoring. Strong running from their forwards forced Pershore to commit an offence in the ruck just short of the line. From the penalty the Kings Norton number 8 broke through 2 tackles to score. This certainly provoked the home team and got a positive reaction from Pershore. Ben Humphries, playing at inside centre, made a powerful run and managed to score under the posts. Woodhouse was successful with the kick to edge Pershore into the lead. Before half time Pershore widened the gap. This time Martin Hope scored off the back of the scrum.

The second half belonged to the piddle parkers. On the few occasions that Kings Norton ventured out of there half the aggressive home defence stood firm and counter attacked well. Will Woodhouse, instrumental at fly half, opened the scoring in the second half and was also successful with the extras. He then turned provider. After collecting his own chip ahead he unselfishly gave Matt Harwood an easy run in a few metres short of the line. Woodhouse again added the extra 2 points. In the final 10 minutes the fitness of the home side again shone through. Flanker Steve Holmes showed his turn of pace when he out sprinted the Winger & full back to score. Then it was the turn of replacement winger Andy Jenkinson to score, on the end of a move which was started by Hope under his own posts. Woodhouse was again successful with the kick giving him a 100% return and securing a 42-5 victory for Pershore.

Pershore are in action next week at Piddle Park when they entertain Shrewsbury in the second round of the EDF Senior Vase.
