A below-par display from the 1st XV on Saturday should take nothing away from a truly excellent performance by Lewes on Saturday. Their mobile and aggressive back five forwards punched hole after hole in the Oaks defence, creating time and space that their classy half-backs exploited with relish. While the 71-10 scoreline may have flattered the home side a little, there was no doubt that this was one of the best performances we have witnessed this season. On this showing, it will be a surprise if Lewes isn’t in the mix for promotion at the end of the season.

Happier times on Sunday, when the u14's had another good win at the Paddock, beating Sidcup 29-5. Despite the conditions they played a very open game of rugby throughout the match scoring tries through Gard, Smith, Adams (2) and Kidd. They are now looking forward to next Sunday and their final game before Christmas when 52 players and supporters will be making the coach journey over to crack Surrey Div. 1 side Kings Wimbledon.

Next Saturday, the 1st XV will travel to Tunbridge Wells in what has become a “must-win” encounter for two sides trying desperately to claw their way out of the danger zone. The U11s will be playing a curtain raiser before the game, so let’s hope for a clean sweep at the Wells!

Christmas Carols and Sevenoaks Rugby Cheer this Saturday

Come and join us for the annual SRFC Christmas Carol Singing, accompanied by the magnificent London Saxophone Choir. There'll also be port, mince pies, Chi Chi's humongous stilton and plenty of good cheer!

When and where? Saturday 17th December 2011 in the clubhouse from 17h30. Don't forget to bring some festive headgear this year. The clubhouse looks great, so we can too! See you then.

All are welcome to attend – players, members, supporters, friends and family and the carols will be sung whatever the weather and no matter how deep the snow this year! If Good King Wenceslas could do it, then so can we!

Finally, the bi-annual SRFC 300+ Club draw will be held on the night with cash prizes of £2,000 (yes, that is not a typo, it’s two thousand smackeroos) to be won – what better way to bring festive cheer into your life and to those around you at the bar as you spend your winnings in the only sensible way.
