Both of the RGS High Wycombe U18 and U15 teams had to travel but came through unscathed in their latest Daily Mail RBS Schools Cup round matches.

The U18 side were given a scare though before getting the better of county rivals Aylesbury Grammar School by the skin of their teeth, 6-5, at Walton Road.

Playing down the slope and into the strong wind they led 6-0 thanks to two storming penalties from fly half Ben Wood.

But with two players in the sin-bin at the start of the second-half 13 man RGS had to weather the early storm playing uphill after the break and conceded an unconverted try.

But, restored to 15 men, they were never really threatened and now face another trip to Abingdon for their South West B Group semi-final (Dec.7)

The RGS High Wycombe U15 team, defending their Daily Mail RBS title they won at Twickenham back in April, were a little more comfortable, 15-0, winners away to Bishop Wordworths Grammar School.

All of their points coming in the second half thanks to tries from scrum half Tom Pearce and No.8 James Smith while fly half Conor McKillop landed one conversion and a penalty.

They now travel to RGS Guildford in the South West A Group semi-final (Dec.7).

Its the 23rd year of the U18 Cup now recognised as the leading schools cup competition in the country and which now has the U15 competition running in tandem.

In the U18 Cup the losers of the opening two rounds go into a Plate competition while only the opening round losers go through to the U15 Plate with both the Cup and Plate finals being fought out at Twickenham Stadium, the home of England Rugby, every April.

Last seasons Twickenham finals attracted a record crowd of approximately 14,000 to underline the competitions mass appeal with schools across the country.

Founded in 1988, the competition has contributed to the development of England stars such as Mike Tindall, Danny Care and James Haskell as well as England U20 centre Elliot Daly, who was part of the U18 Cup-winning Whitgift School team last season.
