Your News Sevenoaks U12 v Haywards Heath

On Sunday Sevenoaks U12 took a new look A squad to Haywards Heath. With a few players unavailable and with others having left the squad this year it was a chance to experiment and play some of the B squad who had been knocking on the door at the end of last season.

In the first match, Haywards Heath quickly showed that they were up for the game and we could see the play was going to be hard and physical. Fortunately Sevenoaks were a match in this department and there was some robust play from new boys Brunt and Roberts, backed up by stalwarts Payne, Lonergan, Hampson and Hitchcock. Following some good driving forward play down the slope, Belither rumbled over from short range to open the scoring. Playing the second half up the slope, Sevenoaks battled well but without further score, winning 1-0.

It was by no means a forward-dominted game though, and the backs moved the ball well to the wings and looked dangerous throughout. Scrum-half Bunnis was ever lively and gave good service to Baker-Howard, moving out one position to fly half, who got his line moving well. Everett, usually a second row, and Dooley made up a new centre pairing and were effective after settling in to their new roles. With Christian and Barney Haysom and Dewhirst as a back three we had pace and aggression out wide.

Haywards Heath clearly wanted another crack at us so we played another full game which turned out to be even more physical than the first, at times bordering on what watching Mum's would have called 'rough'!!

Even with increased levels of intensity Sevenoaks still kept their shape and tried to move the ball at every opportunity. Our dominance up front prevailed, and tries from Brunt and Baker-Howard produced a second win and capped a successful trip for everyone involved.
