Your News Blaydon 15 - Sedgley Park 27

Sedgley made it 4 wins from the last 5 with a well deserved victory at Crow Trees in a hotly contested game in which winger Mike Dutton laid the foundations with 2 well taken first half tries.

The home side struck first when they moved it along the line for Kevin McShane to score in the corner but Dutton with the neatest of side-steps was soon to respond at the other end, Matt Riley converting.

Andrew Baggett replied with a penalty but the Dutton class was evident again on the half-hour when taking a delightful reverse pass from Fergus Owens to scythe through the home defence, Riley again on target.

At 8-14 it was still competitive at the break but Sedgley delivered a hammer blow soon after when a rolling maul ground its way into the 22 where it regrouped under the posts for lock forward Louis McGowan to crash over.

Riley added the conversion and went on to land a couple of penalties but Blaydon meanwhile in one of their better spells had hit back through the forwards for flanker Jason Smithson to finish off from close range.

Urgently seeking a losing bonus point they hammered away at the visitors line only to cough up possession every time they got close, much as they had done all afternoon.
