Your News Salisbury 29 - Swanage & Wareham 10

For the second week in a row Swanage & Wareham travelled to Salisbury, this time in a Dorset/ Wilts Cup tie. The game took on a repeat of the previous week, with Swans taking the lead early on, but the fitter Salisbury team scored a few tries in the closing minutes.

In the first half, most of the play was centred in midfield with Charlie Parish for Swans missing an early penalty attempt. It was not until ten minutes from the interval that Trevis Bartels kicked Salisbury into the lead. Almost immediately Swans were awarded a penalty, which Parish put into touch five metres from the Salisbury line. From the resulting lineout a catch/drive move by Swans forwards had prop Ollie Andrews forcing his way over the line( 3 – 5). Two minutes from the break Salisbury put a penalty onto Swans five metres line and a well worked move had fly half Charlie Jennings scoring a try for the hosts. 8pts – 5pts at half time.

Three minutes into the second half, as Salisbury were on Swans 22 a misplaced pass enabled Swans winger David Price-Smith to intercept the ball and run the 80metres to score Swans second try half way out (8 – 10). Salisbury had much of the play for the next ten minutes or so and close to the hour mark the hosts managed a push over try to give them a 15pts – 10 advantage. Swans lost a couple of players to injuries, but with five minutes to go Salisbury second row Gordon Grant worked his way over for a try (22 – 10). Just before the final whistle, Salisbury put the result beyond doubt, scoring a converted try to give them the 29 – 10 victory.
