Your News Bethany James is a rising star

PAVIORS fly-half Bethany James has capped a memorable year by being awarded one of Nottinghamshire County Councils Rising Star grants.

James, 16, will receive around 400 from the council to help her pay for the extensive travelling she has to do as one of the rising stars of girls rugby in the Midlands and also with the purchase of equipment.

Last season James captained Paviors to the National Under 15 Championship, Notts, Lincs & Derbyshire Under 15s to victory in the Constituent Body Festival and East Midlands to the Under 15 Regional title.

She also represented the Midlands and is now a member of the England Under 18 Technical Development Group.

You have to apply for the Rising Star grants and they are assessed by a panel. Its not very often that they go to rugby players so its quite an achievement for Bethany, said Jamess father Ken, who is President of Paviors.

Its a grant that helps young athletes progress in their careers and provides valuable financial support for things like travelling, which is expensive when a lot of the divisional matches are in Coventry, and in the purchase of things like mouthguards and body protection.

James started playing rugby at Paviors at the age of seven has progressed through the very age groups in a flourishing mini and junior section at the north Nottingham club.

Her father, who played rugby in the army, is also manager of the girls rugby teams at Paviors, manager of NLD Under 15 and Under 18 girls and also of the Midlands divisional side.
