Your News King Edward VII School, Kings Lynn 7 - Wymondham College 15

The KES side started their first national campaign with a very tough match against Wymonham College. After a bright start we were very unlucky to lose our influential PL Baz McNaught to foul play from the opposition Number 8. After the interval needed to see to the injury KES were spurred on and mounted a strong attack against their opposition. Henry Rust and Kai George were influential at the breakdown and were always first there and putting their body on the line. However after great pressure from KES, Wymonham scored 2 tries after breakaways. They also scored a penalty. We were very disappointed to go in at half time 15 – 0 down after a decent performance in the 1st half. However, KES flew back into the 2nd Half with immense pressure leading to a try for Andy Cole which Ciaran Beales inevitably converted.

FORWARDS : 6/7

Did well in patches and rucked Wymonham off when we got there quick enough. However there needs to be more desire to follow the likes of Kai’s and Rusty’s examples of getting there first. The lack of line outs won was understandable due to the loss of our hooker yet we needed to make up for this fact by supporting runners and winning the ball on the floor. Need to become one unit and all talk to each other and work together – even the less experienced players should be doing this.

To improve :

- Ensure that we are always first there.

- Talk more as a team and help each other out.

- Support your team members every time and we will become a very successful team.

BACKS : 7

Similarly to the forwards we were very good in patches. Some very good runs from Butty, Jake and Beales gave us good ground gains and kept the team upbeat. A few errors from the back three allowed Wymonham to capitalise with a penalty and a try. Need to ensure in defence that come up quickly but as a line because we gave Wymondham too much space and time to create openings. In attack we need to be a bit more creative and give Roddy and Bealesy more options than they were getting.

To improve :

- Establish a stronger link with the forwards by talking more ( Bunts )

- Work on the defensive line and cut down opposition space

- Have pace in attack and give other options to 10 and 12.
