Yatton Scorers- Tries 4 C Edwards, 2 G Osborne, M Harris; Cons 3 W Portas, 2 G Osborne ; Pen G Osborne

‘Yatton front 8 proved platform for solid 1st League win’

Yatton knew that if they were going to stop their run of defeats since the start of the season it had to be last Saturday’s home game against fellow basement team Gordon League.

With the platform of a comfortable scrum, noticeably in the first half, Yatton resisted being pinned down in their 22 against the wind for the first 10 minutes and their break up field resulted in Captain Chris Edwards collecting from Jon Bale to run around and give George Osborne an easy conversion. Minutes later Osborne’s penalty made it 10-0 after only 13 minutes.

Alex Evans then got a penalty for the visitors but, seconds later, they suffered the first yellow card of the game for persistently killing the ball.

Osborne’s try and conversion from Liam Chambers leaping collection of a pass was quickly followed by Edwards’ second try to put Yatton on 22-3 for half time.

At 50 minutes Yatton received their first yellow and 10 minutes later Edwards stormed across the pitch for his third and Yatton’s bonus try.

The match became more injury strewn and Yatton’s second yellow was issued only to be followed by a try apiece from Edwards and Osborne, each being converted from far out by Will Portas.

During the 18 minutes of added time Gordon League collected another yellow and a separate high tackle red.

Meanwhile ex-captain 10 minute replacement Mike Harris, returning from a long injury, collected a pop-up pass off the floor, under the posts from Chambers to touchdown.

But battling 12-man Gordon League kept their pride and deserved the try from bulldozing over flanker Chris Petragallia in the corner with seconds to go.

This Saturday Yatton 1st XV face a real test when they travel to Gloucester side Old Centralians who sit at 3rd in the league, only having been beaten once this season.

Yatton 2nd XV are at home to Bristol Barbarians while the 3rd XV are off to face Imperial 2nds.
