Twice already this season Blaydon have turned over the then league leaders boasting a 100% record, but yesterdays trip to West London proved a step too far for them. Newly promoted Ealing were far sharper in most departments and comfortably extended their winning run to 9, scoring 8 tries in the process, althought the game was never as one sided as the score might indicate.

Blaydon, who scored first with a Niall Rowark penalty, had an equal share of possession in the opening quarter only to be hit by 3 tries in a wretched 4 minute spell, and were then reduced to 14 men near the end and obliged to play uncontested scrums when 3 more reversals were suffered.

Poor tackling was responsible for the first avalanche when Peter Hodgkinson, Neil Hallett, and Phillip Chesters all crossed, the latter going on to record a hat-trick and take his total in the campaign to an astomishing 16, and Hallett wighed in with 3 conversions. By the break however the Blaydon forwards were back on top and after a couple of catch and drives Shaun English dived over in the corner.

Chesters chipped over the defence and stormed clear for an excellent second soon after the restart but back came Blaydon once more for Jason Smithson to cross from a ruck near the line. At 31-15 there was still everything to play for going into the final quarter but disaster struck - Smithson plus props Micky Ward and Robbie Kalbraier all went off injured, and Ealing took full advantage.

Dinos Alexpoulos, Ron Maclean-Dent and Chesters again added further scores to leave the Londoners sitting proudly at the head of the table and Blaydon still chasing an elusive away win.
