Your News Sevenoaks club round up

There was a double dose of cup defeat on Sunday as both the 1st XV and the U19s tumbled out of their respective knockout competitions. Perennial bogey side Maidstone put paid to the 1sts’ Kent Cup ambitions with a 21-38 home victory, while Trojans U19s capitalised on an interception try to gain a 15-20 scoreline at the Paddock in round two of the National Colts Cup. All is not lost for the Oaks U19s, however, who now take the club’s hopes forwards into the National Plate competition, looking to repeat their great success of two seasons ago.

At the Paddock on Saturday, Alex Denny’s 2nd XV earned a just reward for sticking at it through a couple of difficult weeks with a 31-22 victory over Old Colfeians. A fine defensive performance resulted in a second half ‘shut out’ and an excellent win for Alex and the boys.

There were also a number of good results to be proud of on Sunday. At the Southend tournament, the U8s shared and the U7s won the Elite title, reversing a group-stage draw with Colchester and loss to Westcliffe, respectively, in the final; the under 10s followed their 5-all ‘share’ of last week’s Upminster tournament final with another final share, this time against old Elthamians in a scoreless thriller; the U11s were runners up in the Bowl; while the U12s took the Bowl trophy after just missing out in their group matches.

Meanwhile, at the Paddock, forward domination enabled the u14s to overpower a very competitive Battersea Ironsides team 31-19 and the U15s beat Old Colfeians 15-14 in a hard-fought, but fairly contested replay of last season's Kent Cup final.

This Saturday the 1st XV return to league action at the Paddock, when they will defend their 100 per cent home record against newly promoted Charlton Park. The former National League side has made an excellent start to the season so will provide a stern test.
