Undoubtably the better team won, but the scoreline flattered the
visitors to Piddle Park.Pershores forwards battled manfully all
afternoon, and probably just shaded the forward battle, however, two
defensive howlers, and an interception try, gifted Newbold 21 pts, so in
essence, the score line could have been far closer. For the first
quarter, Pershore played the majority of the game in Newbolds half, and
had numerous chances of scoring. However, a lack of cutting edge, a
wrong decision made, and handling errors, resulted in Pershore not
altering the scoreboard. Newbold were a fit, young team, who played a
wide running, game, and it was when Pershore were stretched that Newbold
scored their points. At half time Pershore were still in touch, as they
were only 17 pts down, and from the start of the second half, Pershore
pressed hard, and were rewarded with a well taken Ash White try, and a
penalty success from Will Woodhouse. The gap narrowed even further, when
the dependable Martin Hope crashed over, and Woodhouse converting.
Newbold then took control for the last quarter, it was during this
period that Pershore had their defensive lapses, and leaked a few
scores. Overall, it was a battling performance against a good team, but
many improvements can be made.
