HINCKLEY, the last side to beat Bedford Blues in the Investabroad Properties National Colts Cup, will meet the defending champions in the second round of this seasons competition.

Hinckley beat Bedford in the second round of the 2008/09 tournament and went on to win the competition, beating Old Albanians 22-5 in the final.

But Bedford have won the National Colts Cup four times in the last five seasons they won the National Colts Plate in between and are attempting to make it five wins in six years.

Bedford began their title defence with a 42-9 first round win at Kettering and will now have home advantage in the second round which is scheduled to be played on or before October 16.

Moseley, who won the inaugural National Colts Cup in 1998, beat Bromsgrove 32-9 in the first round and will now host Telford Hornets in the next round. Telford enjoyed a walkover against Old Coventrians in the first round.

The Investabroad Properties National Colts Cup was introduced in 1997/98 as part of the East Midlands RU Centenary celebrations. The National Colts Plate began two years later.

Both competitions have grown in popularity and are still organised by East Midlands RU.
