Witney RFC received the RFUs prestigious Whole Club Seal of Approval award at their Hailey Road ground last week.

Jason Bowers, the RFUs Rugby Development Officer for Oxfordshire, chose the Choose Rugby event at Witney Rugby Football Club to present Witney with their Whole Club Seal of Approval certificate.

Witney, who have had held the Mini and Junior Seal of Approval for several years, have been working hard over the last two years to achieve all the organisational standards to meet the rigorous RFU award.

Commenting on the award, Bowers praised Witney for their efforts and standards of delivery in all facets of the Game. Their Mini and Junior Section now has some 400 plus children, and runs four senior sides, a Ladies XV and two girls teams at Under 13s and Under 15s. They also operate in schools delivering tag and full contact rugby throughout West Oxfordshire. As part of their Development programme 11 new referees recently qualified to ELRA level 1 and a programme of Coach Development classes are scheduled for this autumn and spring.

The RFU Seal of Approval accreditation recognises the effort and achievement of volunteers in reaching the standard required in the development of rugby across the whole club, and to plan for the long term sustainability of the club and rugby union.

The Whole Club Seal of Approval accreditation was introduced in 2009 as a method of ensuring high quality provision of rugby in clubs. It builds on the established procedures of Mini and Youth Seal of Approval.

Clubs are assessed by the RFU and must demonstrate evidence of good practice in areas such as club management, player development and recruitment, child protection, sports equity, coaching, refereeing and volunteering.
