Yatton Scorers - Tries C Edwards, B Coghlan; Con G Osborne

‘Spirited Yatton struggle to compete against League Leaders’

With seven tries and three conversions for Hornets in the first 40 minutes, the largely novice and lighter weight Yatton XV knew that the end result was inevitable.

Meanwhile it was important for League Leaders Hornets to keep up their 100% record and also turn in a high points difference in this game before some of their dedicatedly fit players return to college and academies.

The injury strewn first half for Yatton eventually took its toll and 15 minutes of added time took place before the break. However Yatton’s basic spirit never faltered and the first half finished with Yatton on the attack in the visitors 22 and a score line of 0-41.

Apart from the converted try against them at 45 minutes Yatton’s hard pressed pack did resist Hornets polished and physical onslaught for at least fifteen hard minutes but the injury list caught up and on the hour uncontested scrums were ordered. Minutes later Hornets were on the board again, 55 points with no reply.

But Yatton’s attitude of ‘never say die’ brought reward during their purple period when, much to the delight of home side supporters, the teams spirit lifted and twice during five minutes of play Yatton’s slippery, light weight backs sped home two tries, the first by Skipper Chris Edwards and wing Ben Coghlan conjured the second. George Osborne’s conversion of the first try bringing some home pride to the occasion.

Stung Hornets then regrouped and managed to retrieve the lost points by two converted tries in the final minutes, the last being an opportunistic interception.

This Saturday Yatton 1st XV travel to mid table Keynsham. Yatton 2nd XV are at home to Bridgwater 2nds which team may include another ex Yatton player. The 3rd XV go over the Mendip Hills to meet Midsomer Norton 3rd XV.

‘ Yatton 3rds polished support keeps 3rd place in the League’

Perfect weather conditions led to a near perfect day for Yatton 3rd XV as two sides of even ability took to the pitch.

Battling in the first quarter saw an early exchange of points but it was the Yatton side who was showing good structure in their game plan.

Excellent and precision support play combining with defensive lines saw the victorious Yatton XV clocking up six tries in exchange for Keynsham’s two.

Yattons scorers a brace of touchdowns for Ian Churchill and one a piece from Chris Bloomfield, Liam Bishop, Stu Brain and Neil Serman who also added four conversions to maintain his teams 3rd in the League position.
