Luctonians won the battle of the divisions previously unbeaten sides, with a determined performance against Westoe, to sit proudly on top of the National

Two North table. Alex Davidsons side trailed by four points at half- time, but they prevented Westoe from scoring after the break as well as adding a

converted try and a penalty of their own to win 20-14. Loughborough Students leapfrog Westoe into second as a result of their 30-21 win at Otley. Making

their first- ever visit to Cross Green, The Students ran in five tries, two of them from wing Callum Wilson.

Only points difference separates Caldy and Huddersfield in fourth. Fly- half and ace marksman, Chris Johnson, kicked two late penalties to lead Field to

victory over Hull while centre Gavin Roberts grabbed a brace of tries in Caldys 34-11 win at Hull Ionians.

Stockport were the only one of the three promoted sides to notch a win at the weekend, claiming a bonus- point victory over Kendal to consolidate their place

in mid- table. Fellow new boys, Bromsgrove, sit one place below them in eighth following a 22-18 defeat at Nuneaton, who made it three wins on the bounce,

while Sheffield Tigers also had to be content with a losing bonus point on the road after going down 19-15 to Harrogate at Claro Road.

In another tight affair that further demonstrates the increased competitiveness of the division, Preston maintained their 100% home record with a 17-13 win

over bottom- of- the- table Leicester Lions.
