Your News Cornish Pirates sign Aaron Penbarthy

he Cornish Pirates can confirm that 19 year old Aaron Penberthy has signed for the club. Commenting with reference to Aaron signing, CEO Rod Coward has said:

"The application and effort displayed by Aaron during pre-season has been impressive, and he is clearly a talented young player with real potential.

"Aaron will have game time on loan to Redruth but we can recall him when and as required."

Mr. Coward added:

"The arrangement is of benefit to both clubs, and is importantly of particular benefit to Aaron himself."

Aaron, aged 19, who is the son of Redruth stalwart David Penberthy, first started his rugby with Redruth U7s, from where he rose to play for them at all levels. A prolific points scorer for the 'Reds' in 2010-11, amassing 247 points in their campaign, he also played for Cornwall, and for England Counties at U20s and senior level.

Other highlights include featuring for the Truro College side that won the Daily Mail RBS U18s Schools Cup at Twickenham in 2009, when St. Peter's Catholic High School from Gloucester were beaten 39-18 in the final. That was a great moment for all the team, but Aaron rightly holds special pride in the fact that in the semi-final he slotted an all-important last kick in a penalty shoot out, winning 5-3 after the match itself was drawn 19-all at Broadstreet RFC, Coventry. He said at the time:

"It was nerve-wracking but I knew as soon as I struck the ball that it was going between the posts and taking us to Twickenham!"
