Your News Kettering to face holders in National Colts Cup

KETTERING have been given a home draw against the defending champions Bedford Blues in the first round of this seasons Investabroad Properties National Colts Cup.

Bedford, who beat Redingensians 38-10 in last seasons final, are bidding to win the competition for the fifth time in six seasons and begin their title defence at Kettering in a match that must be played by September 25.

The winners will have home advantage against Hinckley in the second round.

In the Midlands West section of the draw Moseley, who won the inaugural National Colts Cup in 1998, have a home first round tie against Bromsgrove. The winners will host either Telford Hornets or Old Coventrians in the second round.

The National Colts Cup was introduced for the 1997/98 season as part of the East Midlands RUs Centenary celebrations. A plate competition for sides beaten in rounds one to thre of the Cup was introduced in 1999/2000.

Both competitions have continued to grow in popularity and they are still administered by the East Midlands RU.

First round draw: Peterborough v Loughborough, Kettering v Bedford Blues, Paviors v Melton Mowbray, Syston v Oundle, Market Bosworth v Ampthill, Old Northamptonians v Coalville, Luton v Market Harborough, Whitchurch v Nuneaton, Dudley Kingswinford v Kidderminster Carolians, Rugby Lions v Burton, Lichfield v Barkers Butts, Tamworth v Stourbridge, Moseley v Bromsgrove, Telford Hornets v Old Coventrians, Derby v Broadstreet. Ties to be played by September 25.

Second round draw: Peterborough or Loughborough v Leighton Buzzard, Kettering or Bedford Blues v Hinckley, Paviors or Melton Mowbray v Syston or Oundle, Market Bosworth or Ampthill v Stockwood Park, Wellingborough v Scunthorpe, Old Northamptonians or Coalville v Lutterworth, Northampton Old Scouts v Oadby Wyggestonians, Luton or Market Harborough v Northampton BBOB, Hereford v Birmingham & Solihull, Whitchurch or Nuneaton v Dudley Kingswinford or Kidderminster Carolians, Rugby Lions or Burton v Lichfield or Barkers Butts, Kenilworth v Old Halesonians, Tamworth or Stourbridge v Walsall, Moseley or Bromsgrove v Telford Hornets or Old Coventrians, Wellesbourne v Wolverhampton, Worcester Wanderers v Derby or Broadstreet. Ties to be played by October 16.
